New Leadership at FICAC: What to Expect?

A new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will assume office this afternoon. Acting Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai confirmed the transition, although the identity of the new Commissioner and specific details regarding their role have not yet been revealed.

According to the FICAC Act of 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President based on recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission, which consults with the Attorney-General prior to the appointment.

In another development, FICAC announced that a raid was conducted at the Election Commission yesterday, resulting in the seizure of documents linked to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali, who faces allegations of abuse of office.
