The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced the appointment of its new Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who expressed her enthusiasm for taking on the leadership role. Malimali has stepped down from her previous position as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, wishing her former colleagues well in their ongoing efforts.

A highly experienced criminal lawyer, Malimali’s appointment was made by His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission and following consultations with the Office of the Attorney-General. Her term officially began yesterday and will last for three years.

FICAC noted that Malimali is the first woman to serve as Commissioner, a position that became vacant after the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. In her remarks on the recent developments, Malimali emphasized her commitment to fulfilling her legal responsibilities, looking forward to her role as Commissioner of FICAC.
