The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has officially welcomed its new Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who expressed her readiness to take on the leadership role. Malimali has resigned from her role as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and extended her best wishes to the commission in its future endeavors.

Malimali, a highly experienced criminal lawyer, was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Office. Her appointment, which is effective immediately, spans a three-year term.

FICAC noted that Malimali is the first woman to hold the Commissioner position, which became vacant following the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. In addressing yesterday’s events, Malimali affirmed her commitment to performing her duties as mandated by law, and she looks forward to fulfilling her responsibilities as FICAC’s Commissioner.
