The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced its new Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who is prepared to lead the organization. Malimali has stepped down from her role as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, extending her best wishes to the team there.
With a strong background as a criminal lawyer, Malimali was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission in consultation with the Office of the Attorney-General. Her term as Commissioner commenced yesterday and will last for three years.
FICAC highlighted that Malimali is the first woman to hold the Commissioner position, which became vacant following the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. In her remarks regarding the recent developments, Malimali expressed her commitment to fulfilling her legal responsibilities regardless of any challenges that may arise and is eager to start her role as FICAC Commissioner.
