New Leadership at FHEC: Dr. Naisele to Drive Educational Reform in Fiji

The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) is entering a new phase with the appointment of Dr. Eci Tekuru Naisele as its new Director, a decision announced today by Minister for Education Hon. Aseri Radrodro. Dr. Naisele comes with an impressive three decades of experience in the education sector, which includes significant roles within both the Ministry of Education and the FHEC itself.

His tenure is anticipated to foster initiatives aimed at improving quality, innovation, and inclusivity across Fiji’s higher education system. Minister Radrodro expressed strong confidence in Dr. Naisele’s vision and leadership skills and acknowledged the continued contributions of FHEC Chairperson Mr. Steve Chand.

Dr. Naisele’s educational background is notable; he holds a PhD from Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiārangi in New Zealand and was awarded the Outstanding Indigenous Research Award in 2023, illustrating his dedication to enhancing indigenous education. His prior roles, which span over ten years at the FHEC, include Manager for Qualifications and Research and Senior Education Officer, equipping him with extensive knowledge essential for his new position.

The Ministry of Education is committed to supporting Dr. Naisele as he prepares to guide the FHEC in developing a more responsive and equitable higher education framework for all Fijians. His appointment is seen as a hopeful step towards addressing long-standing educational challenges, including improving literacy and numeracy, developing teacher competencies, and enhancing accessibility to higher education. This leadership change aligns with broader governmental goals to create a conducive learning environment for all and represents a positive outlook for the future of education in Fiji.
