New Leadership at FCCC: Cecil Browne Takes the Helm!

Cecil Browne, a former banker and candidate for the People’s Alliance in the 2022 General Election, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). Browne will lead a revamped board that includes new members Kelera Gadolo, Dr. Keshmeer Makun, and Adimaibole Waqainabete, while the former chairman Isikeli Tikoduadua and deputy chair Romil Patel stay on in new capacities as deputy chair and commissioner, respectively.

With a robust background in the financial sector, Browne has held numerous significant positions, including Deputy General Manager at ANZ Fiji and General Manager of Corporate and Treasury at Bank South Pacific Fiji. His extensive experience positions him well to tackle the challenges at the FCCC.

In a statement, Browne acknowledged the importance of his new role at a time when consumer protection and competition are pivotal, particularly given ongoing cost of living concerns. “We recognize that cost of living concerns are at the forefront, and FCCC will prioritize this area,” he remarked, underlining his commitment to addressing consumer issues effectively.

FCCC Chief Executive Joel Abraham expressed excitement for the new board’s diverse expertise, emphasizing its importance in the commission’s mission to cultivate a fair and competitive marketplace.
