The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has appointed Senikavika Jiuta as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership change within the organization. FCCC Board Chairperson Cecil Browne welcomed Jiuta, highlighting her notable experience in regulatory roles, strong legal expertise, and her commitment to consumer rights.
Jiuta has an impressive background in the Fijian judiciary system, having previously served as a Resident Magistrate, where she handled a variety of civil, criminal, and family law matters. Her journey within the FCCC includes senior leadership positions, such as Manager of Legal, Risk Management, and Governance, and General Manager of Operations. In these roles, she was pivotal in implementing strategic initiatives and strengthening regulatory frameworks.
In her new role, Jiuta expressed her enthusiasm and commitment to uphold the highest standards in consumer protection, fair trading, and economic sustainability. She emphasized the need to combat rising scams and unfair market practices, especially in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring the FCCC remains proactive in addressing these challenges.
The FCCC, under Jiuta’s leadership, aspires to integrate international best practices while focusing on the unique needs of the Fijian population. This appointment is seen as a promising development for consumers in Fiji, as the commission aims to enhance its operations and effectiveness in promoting a fair marketplace.
The recent transitions within the FCCC leadership, including the welcome of new board members alongside Browne’s appointment as Chair, bring renewed hope for increased focus on consumer rights and regulatory fairness. As the FCCC embarks on this new chapter, there is optimism that Jiuta’s strategic insights and collaborative approach will lead to meaningful advancements in consumer advocacy, benefiting the Fijian community as a whole.
