A new Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption is set to take office this afternoon. This information was confirmed by Francis Puleiwai, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of FICAC.
Puleiwai indicated that she has been notified about the transition, although the specifics regarding the identity of the new Commissioner and their responsibilities have not yet been made public.
According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President based on a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission, which consults with the Attorney-General during the process.
In related news, FICAC has confirmed that they conducted a raid at the Election Commission yesterday, where documents pertinent to their investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were taken. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
