Khushnuma Saleha Mohammed and Ayush Prasad have taken on the mantle of head prefects at Drasa Secondary School, promising to lead their peers with dedication and integrity. Their induction ceremony, which took place in Lautoka, honored 120 prefects who will now embrace their new responsibilities within the school community.
Mohammed, drawing on her experience as a prefect in Form 6 and a relieving prefect in Form 5, expressed her gratitude to her parents for their continued support. She stated, “This position is very important to me as I will assist my teachers, the student council, and fellow heads to execute the tasks assigned to us.” Her words emphasize the role of collaboration and support in effective leadership.
Similarly, newly appointed head boy Ayush Prasad highlighted his desire to lead in a manner that is inclusive and respectful, avoiding a dictatorial approach. Celebrating his recent appointment, he remarked, “Just last week I was appointed head boy by the teachers,” proudly acknowledging the significance of this role in guiding his peers.
During the induction, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Biman Prasad addressed the future leaders, emphasizing the importance of humility and service in their roles. “Your schoolmates, your friends, your teachers, your principal look up to you. They will rely on you to provide leadership in the school,” he asserted, underscoring the responsibilities that come with leadership positions.
The leadership initiatives at Drasa Secondary School reflect a broader trend in Fiji’s education system, which increasingly values student leadership as a means to foster positive school environments. Similar ceremonies held nationwide underscore the essential qualities of character, integrity, and community involvement in molding effective student leaders.
The newly appointed prefects at Drasa Secondary School are not only tasked with setting a positive example but are also committed to cultivating a collaborative atmosphere that encourages their peers to pursue excellence. Their dedication to leadership symbolizes hope and aspiration for their fellow students, contributing to a vibrant school culture and a rich learning experience. This new chapter for the prefects at Drasa Secondary School holds promise for enhancing the educational environment in their community.
