Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, has officially welcomed Rusiate Tudravu as the incoming Commissioner of Police (COMPOL). Mr. Chew commended Mr. Tudravu’s extensive experience, recalling his previous role as acting COMPOL and his contribution through external assessments of the Police Force.
Mr. Chew stated, “He brings a fresh perspective,” and emphasized the importance of the Force rallying behind Mr. Tudravu as they had supported him during his term. As Mr. Chew’s two-year tenure concludes, he reflected on the transitional challenges that the police force and the Coalition government have encountered. He expressed pride in their efforts to serve the citizens of Fiji.
During a recent ceremony honoring over 300 police officers, both current and retired, Mr. Chew reiterated the importance of unity and continued support for the incoming commissioner. Each officer received a medal in recognition of their long service, and Mr. Chew encouraged them to prioritize service delivery over internal distractions.
In response to inquiries, Mr. Tudravu expressed his respect for Mr. Chew’s leadership and indicated that he would maintain a low profile for the time being, promising to address the public when appropriate. Mr. Tudravu is set to commence his role as police commissioner next month, while Mr. Chew will transition back to his position as Deputy Police Commissioner, with plans to begin his leave this week.
