Ratu Josefa Dimuri has committed to fulfilling his responsibilities as the newly elected senior vice president of the People’s Alliance. He was elected unopposed during the party’s General Assembly held last week in Lautoka. Ratu Josefa takes over the role from Rewa chief Ro Naulu Mataitini, who is currently based in the United States.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Ratu Josefa expressed the difficulty of stepping into the role previously held by the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua of Lomanikoro, Rewa. He stated, “It will be very hard and not easy to fill this position… I will continue to tread slowly and hope my feet will grow in those shoes. With God’s help, I will do justice to the job that I have been entrusted with by this assembly and lift the party at all times.”
He also shared his surprise that no one else contested for the position, saying, “If I had known another person standing in, I would have withdrawn.” Ratu Josefa emphasized the presence of many talented individuals within the party who could have enhanced its affairs.
Highlighting the party’s commitment to improvement, he recognized the importance of increased women’s participation in leadership roles. Ratu Josefa endorsed the call from the head of the women’s wing for greater involvement of women, expressing optimism for future female leadership within the party.
