Digicel Pacific has appointed Steve Long as the new Chief Executive Officer for its Hub Markets, which encompass Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, and Nauru. Long brings over 18 years of extensive experience in the telecommunications sector, having previously held various senior executive roles, particularly at Telstra, where he worked for eight years.
Telstra International CEO, Roary Stasko, welcomed Long to Digicel Pacific, emphasizing the positive impact he is expected to have. Stasko noted that Long’s wealth of experience and energy will be key in driving growth and enhancing services across the region.
Long expressed great enthusiasm for his new position, underscoring the vital role telecommunications plays in connecting communities and businesses. He highlighted the unique opportunity to engage with the rich cultures and dynamic markets within the Pacific, demonstrating his commitment to collaboration with local stakeholders and dedication to fostering relationships with teams and customers.
Long’s appointment follows the significant leadership of Shally Jannif, who effectively drove growth during her 12-year tenure. Jannif’s impact laid a solid foundation for Long to build upon, and industry observers view this leadership transition as a promising opportunity for fresh ideas and innovation.
As telecommunications in the Pacific undergo considerable changes, the outlook appears positive with experts like Long taking on leadership roles. His extensive background and proactive approach are expected to result in improved connectivity and enhanced digital services, thereby supporting the development of these communities.
