Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the newly elected senior vice president of the People’s Alliance, has pledged to fulfill his responsibilities diligently. He was elected unopposed during the party’s General Assembly held in Lautoka last week, stepping into the role previously held by Rewa chief, Ro Naulu Mataitini, who is currently living in the United States.

Ratu Josefa acknowledged the challenges of succeeding such a prominent leader, stating, “It will be very hard and not easy to fill this position, especially the shoes of the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua of Lomanikoro, Rewa.” He expressed his determination to grow into the role with the support of God, committing to do justice to the responsibilities entrusted to him by the assembly and to elevate the party’s presence.

Surprised by the lack of challengers for the position, Ratu Josefa remarked, “If I had known another person standing in, I would have withdrawn.” He noted the talent within the party, asserting that other capable individuals could have significantly contributed to the leadership.

Ratu Josefa emphasized his respect for the faith shown in him by the party divisions that nominated him. He also voiced his support for increasing women’s involvement in leadership roles, echoing sentiments shared by the head of the women’s wing. He stated, “We are told to see the first woman president or vice president in our party. Shortly we will have women taking on those crucial roles.”
