The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a cutting-edge facility valued at $26,000, has officially opened its doors, serving as a center for early learning and play for children from Kavanagasau and neighboring areas. This new kindergarten was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Located approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten complements the established primary school, which caters to students from Years One to Eight, as well as a college offering education for Years Nine through 13. Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, welcomed attendees at the opening ceremony and expressed deep appreciation to the Tappoo Group.

Kumar emphasized the importance of the playcenter in shaping the future generation and noted that education transcends traditional classroom settings, valuing spaces that encourage creativity and discovery. He stated, “The grand opening of this Early Childhood Education (ECE) playcenter marks a significant advancement in enhancing the quality of education within the Nadroga Navosa education district.”

The playcenter serves as a tribute to the late Tappoo Kanji, a key figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy and an early student of the school. During the event, Kanti Tappoo, the chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared a personal story reflecting his family’s longstanding connection to the school, which began with his father’s enrollment in 1933. He remarked, “This playcenter symbolizes our family’s commitment to the community and highlights the value of early education.”

Beyond this facility, the Tappoo Group has a history of supporting the school. Last year, the organization contributed $12,500 worth of technology equipment for the school’s computer lab. This year’s initiative focuses on enhancing the educational experience for younger students, underscoring their ongoing commitment to the rural school.

Janice Nath, the Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, praised the Tappoo Group’s dedication to fostering lifelong learners, stating, “The playcenter will benefit not only the children of Kavanagasau but also embody the Ministry of Education’s pledge to promote innovation and quality education.” She emphasized the foundational role of early childhood education in shaping future academic success.

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is set to have a meaningful impact on the young students’ lives, allowing them to develop socially, emotionally, and physically within a supportive environment. The collaborative efforts of the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education position the playcenter as a key component of community education.

The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, celebrating the joint efforts that made this achievement possible and the community’s commitment to ensuring a strong educational foundation for children.

In addition to the kindergarten opening, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School achieved a significant milestone, securing a 100% pass rate in the 2023 Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the second consecutive year. Mr. Kumar credited this success to the hard work of teachers and parents collaborating for the benefit of the students. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau settlement, received recognition for achieving the highest mark. Moving forward, the school is focused on continuous improvement, looking to build on their past successes with the support of parents.
