The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a $26,000 state-of-the-art facility, has been inaugurated to serve as a central hub for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and nearby communities. The kindergarten, which officially opened earlier this month, was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies.
Located approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten is part of a larger educational institution that encompasses primary education from Years One to Eight and secondary education from Years Nine to Thirteen. Head of School Jitendra Kumar expressed gratitude to the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony and emphasized the significance of the play center in nurturing future generations. He highlighted that education is not limited to classrooms but includes spaces that foster creativity and exploration.
Kumar described the play center as a vital addition that promotes quality education within the Nadroga Navosa education district. The facility also pays tribute to the late Tappoo Kanji, an early student of the school and a key figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy. Tappoo Group chairperson Kanti Tappoo shared a personal history of his family’s long-standing relationship with the school, dating back to his father’s enrollment in 1933. He remarked that the play center represents a strong connection to the community and underscores the importance of early education.
The Tappoo Group’s support for the school has been consistent, having previously donated $12,500 worth of Information Technology equipment to enhance the school’s computer lab. This year’s focus on improving the learning environment aims specifically at benefiting younger students.
Nadroga Navosa Education Officer Janice Nath commended the Tappoo Group for their shared vision in fostering learning. She noted that the play center serves not only the children of Kavanagasau but also embodies the Ministry of Education’s commitment to encouraging innovation and quality education. Nath emphasized that early childhood education is foundational for future learning and that the new facility will offer a supportive environment for students to grow in various aspects.
The kindergarten is expected to have a significant impact on young students by providing a nurturing space for social, emotional, and physical development. With the collaborative efforts of the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the play center aims to become a key resource for community education. The inauguration concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, symbolizing the collective dedication to giving children the best possible start in their educational journey.
In a separate achievement, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a consecutive 100 percent pass rate in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination. Kumar credited the accomplishment to the teamwork of teachers and parents. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau settlement, achieved the highest marks, expressing the school’s commitment to maintaining high standards with continued support from parents. Kumar noted that the school has addressed previous weaknesses to achieve quality results in the upcoming examinations.
