Newly appointed Assistant Minister for Justice Josaia Niudamu has expressed his commitment to supporting Minister Siromi Turaga in implementing the ministerial frameworks for the remainder of the Coalition Government’s term leading up to the elections next year. After his swearing-in ceremony at the State House, Mr. Niudamu shared his enthusiasm for serving the Fijian people and ensuring justice for those in need.
“I feel good, and I would like to thank the honorable Prime Minister for entrusting me with this role,” Mr. Niudamu stated. He emphasized his dedication to serving the nation’s interests while upholding the principles of justice. He also pledged to continue the government’s policies and assist Minister Turaga in any planned initiatives for the ministry.
When questioned about his future political ambitions, Mr. Niudamu suggested that he might consider running in the upcoming elections, indicating that timing would play a crucial role in that decision. He reinforced the government’s dedication to enhancing services for Fijians and encouraged public support, stating, “I pray that they keep supporting the Government in providing better services to the country.”
Mr. Niudamu brings a substantial legal background to his new position, being a law graduate from the University of the South Pacific and having spent over a decade with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution before establishing his firm, Niudamu Lawyers. His political journey began with the FijiFirst party, but he recently joined a group of nine members known as the Group of 9 (G9) in expressing support for Prime Minister Turaga.
Minister Turaga, who recently commended The People’s Alliance for its service delivery commitments to the community, noted ongoing efforts to ensure justice and accountability within governance structures. He highlighted that awareness of citizens’ needs is a priority, a sentiment that aligns with Mr. Niudamu’s goals in his new role.
As both Mr. Niudamu and Minister Turaga emphasize their commitment to justice, the political landscape seems poised for continued engagement and improved governance in Fiji, focusing on serving the populace’s needs and rebuilding trust in public institutions. This positivity suggests that the government is dedicated to making significant strides in community service and justice reform in the coming year.
