The Vualiku Hotel is set to significantly alleviate the accommodation shortage in Labasa, as highlighted by Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica. The issue became particularly evident during the recent Fiji Day celebrations at Subrail Park, where some civil servants had to share rooms due to limited availability.
Minister Kamikamica emphasized that this hotel project is a crucial development in positioning Labasa as a key player in tourism, hospitality, and economic growth. The $10 million investment, initiated 13 years ago by Vcorp Limited director Vinesh Dayal and his wife Rachel, in collaboration with the Matasawa tribe, has finally moved forward with approved plans.
The Vualiku Hotel will comprise a two-story building featuring 40 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and various recreational activities. Additionally, it will include a 500-square-meter conference facility aimed at attracting more national events to the northern region.
Mr. Kamikamica noted that this business initiative promotes iTaukei empowerment, supporting the objectives of the Dayal family and reinforcing the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s development efforts. He elaborated on how this project exemplifies a new model for landowner-business partnerships, ensuring both direct and indirect benefits for the community.
The completion of the hotel is anticipated by the end of 2025, marking a promising advancement for Labasa’s hospitality sector and local economy.
In conclusion, the Vualiku Hotel project stands as a beacon of hope for the community in Labasa, not only addressing immediate accommodation needs but also paving the way for sustainable economic growth and tourism development in the region.
