The construction of the Vualiku Hotel is anticipated to alleviate the existing shortage of accommodation in Labasa, according to Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica. He highlighted that the lack of available rooms became particularly apparent during the recent Fiji Day national celebrations at Subrail Park, which even saw some civil servants sharing rooms due to limited options.
Mr. Kamikamica noted that this project marks a significant step in realizing Labasa’s potential as a center for tourism, hospitality, and economic development. The hotel project, involving a substantial $10 million investment initiated 13 years ago by Vcorp Limited’s director Vinesh Dayal and his wife Rachel, along with the Matasawa tribe, is finally progressing with approved plans.
The new hotel will comprise a two-story building featuring 40 rooms, a swimming pool, and a restaurant, as well as recreational facilities. An important addition will be a 500 square-meter conference space designed to attract more national conferences to the northern region.
Furthermore, the business initiative emphasizes iTaukei empowerment, aligning with the objectives of the Dayals and supporting the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry in fostering local development. Mr. Kamikamica explained that this endeavor redefines the partnership between landowners and businesses, offering both direct and indirect benefits to the community.
The Vualiku Hotel is projected to be completed by the end of 2025, promising a brighter future for Labasa’s hospitality sector.
This development not only aims to tackle the accommodation crisis but also encourages economic growth and community empowerment, fostering a more vibrant local economy. With the expected completion date on the horizon, residents and visitors alike can look forward to enhanced opportunities that will ultimately boost Labasa’s profile as a desirable destination.
