In a significant development for the community, the Vukelulu shelter was inaugurated last week in Dago, Nananu, Tailevu, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka since its initiation in 2017. The establishment of this new facility was made possible with the generous support from the government of New Zealand, which has provided funding amounting to $472,895 to enhance medical services and infrastructure.
The shelter is expected to serve approximately 8,000 residents from the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa areas, providing them with essential health services in a safe environment. Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of protecting the health and wellbeing of the community, highlighting the critical role the shelter would play for local residents.
Additionally, it will also facilitate better health services for students from Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School, ensuring that education and health services are accessible to those in close proximity.
Charlotte Darlow, a representative from the New Zealand government, reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting Fiji in improving health services for its citizens. This initiative reflects a strong partnership and a shared dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Fijians.
Overall, this new development signifies a positive step forward in health care access for the community, ensuring that residents receive necessary support and services. It is a hopeful reminder of international collaboration working towards better living conditions and health outcomes for people in need.
