The Coalition Government of Fiji has allocated $2 million through the Ministry of Housing to assist families in securing stable housing. As a result, twelve families from Kalabu (Jale) Estate and one from Makoi Housing Estate in Nasinu received offer letters for their new homes this past Monday. Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting families living in informal settlements and low-to-middle income earners.

Minister Nalumisa emphasized the impact of homeownership on community involvement, stating that homeowners are more likely to engage in civic activities and actively advocate for improved living conditions. He believes that this initiative not only secures the future of the families but also positively contributes to the social and economic well-being of their neighborhoods.

Varanisese Bai, a recipient of one of the offer letters from Kalabu, expressed her relief and gratitude for finally becoming an official homeowner after years of seeking assistance from previous governments. She stated that this new opportunity has motivated her to consider extending her home in the future.

This allocation comes on the heels of robust government investments in various housing projects, including a significant $16 million commitment to the Lagilagi Housing Estate project aimed at developing affordable housing for low-income residents. This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s determination to enhance living conditions across Fiji by ensuring accessible and stable housing initiatives.

Given the supportive framework established by the government, families receiving their offer letters today symbolizes hope and progress toward better living conditions. It highlights the importance of continuing efforts aimed at uplifting communities and addressing housing challenges in Fiji, ultimately paving the way for a more equitable future.
