Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) is working towards establishing a comprehensive rehabilitation center for families, as announced by its executive director, Reverend Hemraj Mangal. He shared with The Fiji Times’ online platform, The Lens@177, that the initiative includes the construction of four dormitories aimed at increasing their capacity to serve up to 80 students.
Presently, the center can accommodate two students, with the potential to house twelve more. Mr. Mangal emphasized the immediate goal of creating a dedicated center for men over 18, outlining a phased approach where each phase will see the construction of a dormitory for 20 students. The future plans also include developing a women’s and children’s center, similarly structured.
Looking ahead, Mr. Mangal indicated a willingness to expand operations should funding permit, noting a significant need for such services due to the prevalence of drug-related issues in the community. His optimism about securing funds reflects a deep commitment to the cause and faith in divine provision.
Since 2014, the staff have participated in various training programs, and the organization collaborates with Global Teen Challenge, which has over 1,400 centers across 140 countries. This affiliation provides essential resources, teaching materials, and training support to enhance their rehabilitation programs.
In summary, Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) is poised to expand its services significantly, addressing the urgent need for rehabilitation facilities in Fiji. Their phased development approach and partnership with Global Teen Challenge highlight a proactive commitment to combating substance abuse and supporting affected families in the community.
This initiative not only aims to create more space for individuals seeking recovery but also reflects a growing awareness and proactive stance against the challenges of substance abuse, fostering hope for many families in need.
