Penioni Ravunawa has been appointed as the new Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services and is expected to be sworn into office upon his return to Suva later this month. Prime Minister Rabuka confirmed this development during a press conference, mentioning that the swearing-in ceremony could not take place earlier due to Ravunawa’s absence from the country.
Ravunawa expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve within the government, marking a significant transition as one of the seven individuals appointed from the deregistered FijiFirst Party to hold ministerial roles in the Coalition Government. Historically, he has been a vocal critic of Fiji’s healthcare system, drawing attention to the deteriorating health infrastructure and the challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
His entry into the Coalition Government is part of a broader strategy to enhance governance by integrating diverse political backgrounds. Although two other Independent MPs, Taito Rokomatu and Alipate Tuicolo, did not participate in the recent swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Rabuka indicated his support for them, suggesting ongoing unity within the coalition.
This reshuffling of ministerial roles not only reflects a commitment to inclusivity but also aims to address critical issues such as healthcare, climate change, and immigration. As Fiji progresses through these political changes, there is hope that this collaborative approach will lead to innovative solutions and effective leadership, ultimately benefiting the Fijian populace.
