Over 8,000 residents from the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa districts in northern Tailevu are set to benefit from the newly inaugurated Dogo Health Centre. This center will also manage the nursing services at Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School, ensuring that more individuals have access to necessary healthcare.

During the commissioning ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare as a fundamental priority of the Coalition Government. He described the opening of the health center as a significant achievement for both the government and the people of Tailevu North, particularly for the communities of Sawakasa, Dawasamu, and Namena.

Prime Minister Rabuka expressed gratitude towards the Minister for Health, the Permanent Secretary, and the New Zealand Government for their ongoing support in enhancing Fiji’s health sector. The Dogo Health Centre was refurbished after a fire in 2017 and received funding of $472,895 from New Zealand.

Addressing a pressing health issue, the Prime Minister discussed the challenge of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and encouraged attendees to utilize the health services available, such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests. He underscored the importance of individual health, urging everyone to take responsibility for their well-being for the sake of their families, communities, and the nation.

New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reiterated New Zealand’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s health sector, alongside initiatives focused on climate resilience and economic empowerment.

This development is a positive step towards better healthcare access, enhancing the well-being of communities in Fiji. With this new facility and ongoing international support, there is hope for improved health outcomes and an empowered public health system that fosters a healthier nation.
