A new health facility, the Dogo Health Centre, has been inaugurated in the northern region of Tailevu, serving over 8,000 residents from the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa districts. The centre will coordinate health services provided by nursing stations located at Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School in Dawasamu.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing access to high-quality healthcare services, emphasizing that this initiative is part of the Coalition Government’s priorities. He described the opening of the health centre as a significant milestone for both the government and the local communities of Tailevu North, specifically mentioning Sawakasa, Dawasamu, and Namena.
The refurbished health centre, which reopened after a fire incident in 2017, was funded by the Government of New Zealand, totaling an investment of $472,895. Prime Minister Rabuka also addressed the pressing issue of Non-Communicable Diseases in his remarks. He encouraged attendees to utilize the available health services, including getting tested for blood sugar and blood pressure, to stay informed about their health and to follow medical advice.
At the event, Prime Minister Rabuka underlined the importance of health, stating, “Our health is our wealth,” and called for collective responsibility in maintaining individual and community well-being. He asserted that healthy families and communities are vital for the overall strength of Fiji.
New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reaffirmed her country’s ongoing support for Fiji’s health sector alongside efforts in climate resilience, adaptation, and economic empowerment.
This development not only reflects ongoing international cooperation but also places significant focus on preventative health measures, showcasing a hopeful step toward improving the overall health status within the communities served. Through these initiatives, the government aims to foster healthier environments that empower citizens to take charge of their health, thus contributing to a stronger future for Fiji.
