More than 8,000 residents across the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa districts in northern Tailevu are set to benefit from the newly inaugurated Dogo Health Centre. The health facility will also manage services at nursing stations located at Ratu Kadavulevu School, Dawasamu, and Queen Victoria School.
During the commissioning ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized that enhancing access to quality healthcare services is a top priority for the Coalition Government. He described the health centre’s opening as a significant milestone for both the government and the local communities.
“I express my gratitude to the Minister for Health, the Permanent Secretary, and the New Zealand Government for their ongoing support of Fiji’s health sector,” Rabuka remarked. The health centre, which underwent refurbishment following a fire in 2017, was funded by the Government of New Zealand, totaling $472,895.
Prime Minister Rabuka also took the opportunity to address the pressing healthcare challenge posed by Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). He encouraged attendees to utilize the available health services, advising them to get their blood sugar and blood pressure tested and to heed medical advice.
“Health is our wealth, and we must take responsibility for our well-being—for our families, our community, and our nation,” he stated, underscoring the importance of community health for a strong Fiji.
Moreover, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s health sector, as well as contributing to climate resilience, adaptation efforts, and economic empowerment.
This development represents a significant step toward improving social welfare in Fiji, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in addressing public health challenges. The opening of the Dogo Health Centre is a hopeful signal of progress, fostering a healthier future for the communities it serves.
In summary, the establishment of the Dogo Health Centre marks a pivotal advancement in healthcare accessibility for thousands of residents, further strengthening community health initiatives and fostering international partnerships that enhance the well-being of the population.
