More than 8,000 residents from the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa districts in northern Tailevu can now access improved healthcare services thanks to the newly inaugurated Dogo Health Centre. This facility will also supervise the nursing services available at Ratu Kadavulevu School, Dawasamu, and Queen Victoria School.

During the commissioning ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted the significance of enhancing access to quality healthcare, which he emphasized as a primary objective of the Coalition Government. “Today’s celebration marks a significant milestone for both the Government and the people of Tailevu North, particularly for the communities of Sawakasa, Dawasamu, and Namena,” he stated.

The Dogo Health Centre, which has been rebuilt following a fire in 2017, was funded by the Government of New Zealand at a cost of $472,895. Prime Minister Rabuka expressed gratitude towards the Minister for Health, the Permanent Secretary, and the New Zealand Government for their ongoing support to Fiji’s health sector.

Further addressing the community, the Prime Minister urged residents to utilize the health services provided, particularly to monitor their blood sugar and blood pressure. “Understanding your health status and following medical advice is crucial. Remember, our health is our wealth, and we must care for ourselves—for our families, communities, and nation,” he emphasized, referring to the urgency of tackling Non-Communicable Diseases as a public health concern.

New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting Fiji in healthcare, climate resilience, and economic empowerment, among other vital areas.

This positive development not only signifies an investment in healthcare infrastructure but also demonstrates a collaborative effort to enhance the overall wellbeing of the Fijian population. With increased access to medical services, communities can look forward to a healthier future and a stronger collective response to health challenges.

In summary, the new Dogo Health Centre offers a valuable resource for residents in the region, showcasing the importance of international partnerships and community health initiatives. This focus on health is a hopeful step towards a more resilient and thriving Fiji.
