The Government has launched the Hardship Assistance Scheme to support private students with strong academic performance who are facing financial challenges or are on private arrangement schemes.
While presenting the 2024-2025 National Budget in Parliament, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro announced the revised scheme, which includes an allowance of $2000 per student, and expressed his gratitude for its approval.
“The application process for this scheme will begin after the budget is passed, providing immediate relief for private students,” Mr. Radrodro stated.
“The entry requirement for this scheme has been adjusted from a 65 percent to a 50 percent pass rate for students in their second year of a degree program. Additionally, this scheme will now include TVET students at the diploma level.”
Mr. Radrodro added that the budget also supports initiatives aimed at fostering greater collaboration between schools, families, and communities, ensuring holistic support for students.
“I fully endorse the Prime Minister’s call for community engagement, emphasizing the need to work together for the common good of our nation and moving away from the outdated mentality of working in isolation,” he said.
