New Green Oasis: Ratu Sukuna Park Reopens for All Fijians

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged Fijians to take responsibility for the upkeep of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which cost $7 million. During the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

He described the transformed park as a sign of the nation’s progress and commitment to urban renewal. The upgraded park now boasts modern amenities including a new podium structure, designer night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that integrates hardscape with green spaces.

Kamikamica also pointed out that the new water feature enhances the monument of Ratu Sukuna, providing a peaceful atmosphere to the park. He emphasized that the park is not just a green area but a sanctuary in the midst of a busy city, offering peace, tranquility, creativity, and a new beginning.

“This is a place where everyone can pause, gather with loved ones, and set a new course in life,” he stated. He further remarked on the importance of parks like Ratu Sukuna, noting that they are vital to the health and well-being of communities. They serve as gathering spaces for families, play areas for children, and places of solace in nature.

Kamikamica called on everyone to collaborate in transforming Suva into a city that embraces nature, reaffirming its reputation as one of the best cities for the environment on the Global Cities Index.
