Lutukina District School in Macuata has been awarded a $40,000 grant to build new teachers’ quarters, under the Ministry of Education’s Non-Government Schools Building Grant Programme. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, who praised the school’s dedication to improving the living conditions of educators working in rural areas.
This initiative is part of a larger $585,000 funding allocation designated for infrastructure development across 18 non-government schools in the country for this year. Minister Radrodro emphasized the importance of safe and decent accommodation for teachers, which he believes is essential for them to perform their duties effectively.
During his visit, the Minister engaged in a talanoa session with school management, community leaders, teachers, students, and parents, stressing the need for collective community support in the education sector. He articulated that “it takes a village to raise a child,” highlighting the critical role that collaboration plays in ensuring a brighter future for children in rural Fiji.
This commitment from both the government and the local community is instrumental in advancing educational infrastructure, reflecting a national trend towards enhancing learning environments across Fiji. Other educational advancements have recently included the inauguration of new classrooms at various schools, which not only improve facilities but also foster a supportive environment for student learning and teacher effectiveness.
Such support indicates a positive trajectory for education in Fiji, as continued investments in infrastructure provide hope for future generations, reinforcing that together, communities can build better educational prospects for their youth.
