The government has initiated the construction of the Marou Village Footcrossing in Nadarivatu, aiming to enhance access and connectivity for rural communities. This $48,000 project, funded through the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management’s Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges (CARFF) Program, is set to provide safer passage for over 95 villagers, particularly during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rains and flooding.
Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Mosese Bulitavu, emphasized that the project underscores the government’s dedication to rural growth. He noted, “This footcrossing is a practical investment that responds directly to the everyday challenges faced by rural families in this village.” He further highlighted that for communities like Marou, safe access is vital for education, healthcare, livelihoods, and overall well-being.
The new footcrossing will notably benefit 98 villagers from 15 households, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, while also improving access to schools, health services, and farming activities. Mr. Bulitavu pointed out that infrastructure initiatives under the CARFF program not only bolster community resilience but also enhance disaster preparedness.
“This investment belongs to the community,” he stated, encouraging a sense of ownership among residents. He reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining the footcrossing, which he believes will serve Marou for many years to come.
This project represents a significant stride towards fostering sustainable rural development and improving the quality of life for local residents.
