New recruit Vuate Karawalevu is thrilled to embark on his journey with the Fijian Drua, the nation’s premier rugby club. The 23-year-old, hailing from Dravuwalu Village in Kadavu, has transitioned from the New South Wales Waratahs, attributing his move to divine timing.
Karawalevu reflected on his journey, stating, “I started with the Waratahs, and was just not eligible to be selected, but God always sees people that are working hard.” After discussing his return with his parents, who encouraged him to join the Drua and spend some time at home, he is eager to represent his roots.
He has quickly integrated into the team, sharing that many of his new teammates are familiar faces from previous tours and high school rugby. “It has been good; most of the boys I camped with during the Flying Fijians tour are here, and I played alongside many of them back in high school with the Fiji Schoolboys,” he mentioned.
Versatile on the field, Karawalevu expressed his comfort in playing anywhere within the back three positions, favoring fullback but open to wing as well. “I love playing fullback, but I don’t mind playing wing; I’ll take whatever comes,” he added.
Karawalevu’s positive outlook and familiarity with the squad bode well for his contributions to the Drua and the upcoming season. His journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes, emphasizing the importance of hard work and seizing opportunities when they arise.
