New Fiji Rugby Board Unveils 2026 Strategy Focused on Growth and Women’s Rugby

The Fiji Rugby Football Union (FRFU) is entering a new phase of strategic planning following its recent General Assembly held at the Tokatoka Island Resort in Nadi. Acting CEO Koli Sewabu conveyed the significance of this event as a pivotal moment for the newly appointed board, as they evaluated the past year and laid out clearer directions for the upcoming years, particularly focusing on 2025.

Sewabu expressed gratitude for the support received from all member unions, highlighting the assembly’s purpose to reflect on the current year’s performance, recognize challenges faced, and strategize for the future. “This is a fantastic day for Fiji Rugby, particularly for us as a new board,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of collaboration moving forward.

Key discussions at the assembly revolved around the achievements and issues pertaining to the domestic fund, in addition to outlining a proposed calendar of activities for 2026 and beyond. Sewabu indicated that the proposed calendar aligns with their high-performance targets, with strong confidence that it can be confirmed for the coming years.

Moving forward, the FRFU is in the process of finalizing vital development areas including participation pathways, training, education, governance, and administration. Additionally, a dedicated strategy for women’s rugby is part of their comprehensive planning. While reflecting on the issues of the past year, Sewabu underscored that the primary focus is on developing solutions aimed at fostering a stronger and more resilient rugby framework by 2026.

This proactive approach signals a hopeful outlook for Fiji Rugby, with an emphasis on growth, inclusivity, and strategic planning to enhance its competitiveness in the regional and global arenas.
