The Suva Netball Association has expressed its enthusiasm regarding the recent Stakeholders Governance Workshop facilitated by Netball Fiji, deeming it a pivotal moment for the advancement of netball within the country. The workshop primarily centered around the introduction of a new constitution aimed at enhancing governance, zoning, and the overall development of Fiji’s netball community.

Alumeci V Sachs, the President of Suva Netball, referred to the workshop as a breakthrough following extensive discussions among the participating stakeholders. She noted the collaborative effort took approximately four to five meetings for the working group to reach consensus with Netball Fiji on many aspects of the new constitution.

Sachs acknowledged the invaluable contributions of key advisors, particularly legal consultant Wati and Mr. Peter Mazey, who guided the process. She expressed contentment with the outcomes, especially in light of previous tensions that led to the departure of fifteen association presidents during a meeting in March 2025.

“We are quite satisfied with the meeting held today. The new constitution addresses many concerns we had and reflects contributions from all associations,” Sachs stated. A notable feature of the constitution is the introduction of a zoning system. Sachs believes this innovation will enhance cooperation between larger and smaller associations, ultimately benefiting all parties involved.

“The zoning system links trustees, the board, executive committees, and associations to benefit everyone,” she added. With the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the horizon, Sachs remains hopeful that the new constitution will receive formal approval without any opposition.

“This constitution is a great strategy to ensure all players across Fiji are well represented, helping the sport grow and succeed on the world stage,” she concluded. The successful execution of the workshop signifies a significant step forward in fortifying governance and nurturing the growth of netball throughout Fiji, setting a promising foundation for the future of the sport.
