Barbara Malimali has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). FICAC confirmed that her appointment was made through the Judicial Services Commission and has received approval from the President. According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the President appoints the Commissioner based on recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission, after consultations with the Attorney-General.

In a related development, FICAC disclosed that they conducted a raid at the Election Commission the previous day, during which documents connected to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were confiscated. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
