Four exceptional athletes from the ANZ Marama Cup have been named to the Vodafone Fijiana XV extended squad for upcoming test matches against Scotland and the Netherlands this month.
The selected players, all hailing from the Suva Women’s team, are Alisi Galo, Alfreda Fisher, Adi Salaseini Railumu, and Ivamere Nabura.
This selection underscores the importance of the ANZ Marama Cup, which has emerged as a vital platform for identifying and developing rugby talent in Fiji.
Mike Legge, the coach of Fiji Rugby’s High Performance Women’s Program, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the new selections.
“It’s a very special moment for the High-Performance Women’s Program to welcome these new players to the Fijiana squad for the upcoming tour. Currently, we have 12 athletes from our High-Performance group in that squad,” he stated.
Legge highlighted the crucial role of local competitions in creating opportunities for players aiming for national and international recognition.
“The dream of every aspiring HPU player is to wear the Fijiana jersey and join the Fijiana Drua. Their selection demonstrates that a pathway exists for our local talents, particularly those competing in the ANZ Marama Cup,” he added.
