The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, welcomed the second batch of new teachers during a ceremony held on Friday, coinciding with the International Day of Education. In his address, he encouraged the new educators to embrace their roles as mentors and facilitators to foster a positive learning environment.

Highlighting the 2025 theme, “AI and Education – Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” Mr. Radrodro urged teachers to inspire creativity and instill a love for learning in their students. He emphasized the critical need to enhance student literacy and numeracy levels through collaborative efforts involving teachers, parents, and students alike.

As a reminder of their professional responsibilities, he urged the new teachers to maintain professionalism during lessons, avoiding distractions such as mobile phone use. He also encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the 2023 Denarau Declaration, which outlines the Fiji National Education Policy Framework for the period 2024-2034.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and appointment letters, where the teachers took an oath of service, committing to their responsibilities as educators. They will officially begin their duties at their respective schools as the 2025 academic year gets underway.

This initiative signals a positive commitment to enhancing quality education in Fiji, reflecting a proactive approach to addressing the educational framework and ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive.

As context, previous initiatives by the Ministry of Education, such as the announcement of financial support for qualification upgrades to 395 teachers, show the government’s ongoing dedication to valuing educators. This financial assistance, part of a broader strategy to enhance teachers’ professional development, reaffirms the crucial role of educators in shaping the future of the education system in Fiji.

With these concerted efforts, there is hope for significant improvements in the educational outcomes for both students and teachers, promoting a brighter future for the educational landscape in Fiji.
