“New Educational Facility Opens at Tacirua: A Boost for Students!”

A new educational facility has been officially opened at Jeremiah Raibevu College in Tacirua, offering more than 85 students improved learning environments. The building, which includes classrooms and a science laboratory, was inaugurated by Japanese Ambassador Rokuichiro Michii and Fiji’s Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.

Constructed between 2020 and 2021, the building was funded by a significant contribution of $213,570 from the Japanese government through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects program. This initiative supports various development projects aimed at improving local communities, showcasing Japan’s ongoing commitment to educational advancement in Fiji.

The project saw strong community involvement, with local landowning units and the Nazareth Construction Company reducing labor costs significantly. Principal Merewalesi Tuiloma highlighted the importance of this new facility in making education more accessible and equitable for all students. She expressed gratitude for the support received and emphasized the value of education rooted in strong principles.

Minister Radrodro reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every Fijian has equitable access to quality education. He stated, “By building and upgrading schools like this one, we are providing the best possible resources for our students and helping them achieve their potential.”

Ambassador Michii also underscored the new facility as a symbol of the strong bilateral relationship between Japan and Fiji, reflecting Japan’s long-standing investment in the country’s development, which totals over $30 million since 1990 across 423 projects.

Additionally, Minister Radrodro presented a new classroom block and computer lab to Tacirua Primary School, utilizing $60,600 from the Ministry of Education’s Free Education Grant Scheme. This is aligned with the government’s broader commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4, focusing on inclusive, equitable, and quality education.

The inauguration of these educational facilities highlights a hopeful commitment to enriching the learning experiences of students in Fiji, fostering an environment where they can thrive academically.
