The government is set to introduce a comprehensive E-ticketing system aimed at integrating various modes of transportation, which includes taxis, minivans, and boats, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica.
During a meeting with representatives from the bus industry and Vodafone Fiji, Mr. Kamikamica listened to concerns raised by bus operators regarding the challenges of transitioning to this new technology and the long-term viability of the transportation sector.
“We are rolling out the new E-ticketing system. The goal is to eventually encompass all modes of transportation. This is indeed an exciting journey,” he remarked. He acknowledged the existence of initial difficulties in implementing the system but assured stakeholders that solutions are being actively pursued.
After 18 months of dedicated effort, progress on the E-ticketing system is becoming more visible, with collaboration among all stakeholders being emphasized to ensure effective service delivery and improved transportation efficiency.
Vodafone Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Elenoa Biukoto, highlighted the company’s role as the e-ticketing solution provider, reinforcing the partnership’s importance in this initiative.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties committing to ongoing collaboration to address industry and public concerns effectively.
This initiative not only promises to streamline transportation but also aims to enhance overall service efficiency, fostering a more user-friendly experience for the public. With a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement, the E-ticketing system reflects a progressive step towards modernizing Fiji’s transportation infrastructure.
