A new culvert crossing valued at over $239,900 has been inaugurated in Dakuniba Village, located in the Cakaudrove region. This infrastructure project aims to solve a persistent issue where heavy rainfall causes flooding at the village entrance, rendering travel unsafe or even impossible.
Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo remarked that adverse weather conditions previously made it hard for children to reach their schools, disrupted the transportation of produce to markets, and created significant obstacles for families trying to access essential services. The project has been funded collaboratively by the Government and the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), with the Government contributing $199,272.20 through the 2024-2025 Small Grant Scheme, while the FRA allocated $40,629.43.
Vosarogo emphasized that this initiative exemplifies the Government’s unwavering commitment to investing in rural and maritime communities, ensuring that development benefits every corner of Fiji. The new culvert crossing is expected to deliver immediate advantages, particularly for students attending Nawi District School, Mabuco Catholic Primary School, and Vatuvonu High School. Students will now have safer and more reliable access to education year-round, enhancing their overall learning experience and community wellbeing.
