The Tuatua Housing community marked a significant milestone with the official inauguration of a newly constructed multipurpose court, officiated by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru. The project, which cost $168,458, is set to encourage various sports, particularly netball and volleyball, within the community.
Minister Saukuru stressed that this court is much more than just a sporting facility; it is a vital platform for youth development, community bonding, and the cultivation of leadership and discipline among young people. “This court is more than a sports facility; it is a platform for our youth to develop their skills, build character, and dream big,” he stated during the ceremony.
He also expressed optimism that this initiative could serve as a springboard for future sports representatives to emerge from the Tuatua community. The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the National Youth and Sports Policy, which aims to provide fair access to quality sports infrastructure across Fiji.
This event follows the inauguration of a similar multipurpose court in the Vunidawa area of Naitasiri, which was also officiated by Minister Saukuru. That facility, valued at $169,000, highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts to empower local youth and create safe spaces for them to engage in positive activities, away from various social challenges.
Overall, such developments underscore a broader commitment from the government to enhance community facilities that promote health, teamwork, and personal growth among the youth of Fiji. The initiatives not only provide recreational opportunities but also play a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and belonging, inspiring hope for the future of Fiji’s younger generation.
