A long-awaited effort has begun to construct a community hall that will also provide refuge during bad weather for residents of Vuci, Tailevu. Joji Butadroka, the leader of development in Vuci, spoke about this initiative. He mentioned that the project gained momentum after the election of Sitiveni Rabuka as the new government leader during a provincial meeting held in Vuci recently.

The support for this project has been ongoing since 2009 and continued into 2012. The government has provided assistance through a ‘village improvement scheme’ to help complete the construction of this community hall. The total cost of the project stands at $790,000.

Joji indicated that this new hall will benefit the local community by providing shelter, as they are situated near small rivers that can flood easily. He emphasized that the hall will serve as a protective space for all residents.

Currently, Vuci is home to 67 households with a population nearing 300. Joji pointed out that during previous times of storms or adverse weather conditions, the community relied on various facilities such as churches and private homes for safety. However, the establishment of this community hall will be a significant enhancement for the local community.

Moreover, Joji noted that within the hall, there will be areas designated for other purposes, including a dispensary, a youth resource center, and a women’s resource center, all aimed at supporting community members effectively.

The provincial meeting expressed hope that the community hall would serve the people well, facilitating various activities and gatherings that benefit the local population.
