The Prime Minister, who also chairs the Constitutional Officers Commission, has officially announced the nomination of Rusiate Tudravu as the new Commissioner of Police. Tudravu is set to assume his role on February 3, 2025.

Prime Minister Rabuka confirmed that the decision made by the Commission was unanimous and clarified that there were no conflicts of interest involved in the nomination process. Tudravu will be required to resign from his current position as chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council to take on the responsibilities of the Commissioner of Police.

Tudravu brings extensive experience to this position, having served 39 years with the Fiji Police Force. He previously held the role of Deputy Commissioner and served a year as acting Commissioner while the former Commissioner, Brig-Gen Qiliho, was studying abroad in the United Kingdom.

This appointment signifies a new chapter for the Fiji Police Force under Tudravu’s leadership, with hopes for positive reforms and community engagement in policing.

In summary, the appointment of Rusiate Tudravu as the new Commissioner symbolizes confidence in his leadership skills and experience, potentially leading to a strengthened police force in Fiji.
