The Prime Minister and chairman of the Constitutional Officers Commission has officially announced that Rusiate Tudravu will be nominated as the new Commissioner of Police, effective February 3, 2025. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Commission’s decision was unanimous and highlighted there were no conflicts of interest involved in the selection process.
To accept this new role, Mr. Tudravu will need to resign from his current position as chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council. He had previously served in the Fiji Police Force for 39 years, resigning from his Deputy Commissioner role in August 2021. During his tenure, he temporarily filled the position of Commissioner of Police for a year while the former commissioner was studying abroad in the United Kingdom.
This transition signals a continued effort towards effective leadership within the Fiji Police Force, and Mr. Tudravu’s extensive experience may contribute to strengthening community safety and trust.
Overall, this appointment represents a new chapter for the Fiji Police, with hope for enhanced law enforcement and positive community engagement under Mr. Tudravu’s leadership.
