The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is preparing to announce new head coaches for the Fijiana 7s and 15s teams this week, as confirmed by CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu. Offers have been sent to potential candidates, and the organization is eagerly awaiting their responses. Among the applicants is the legendary Waisale Serevi, a prominent figure in rugby sevens who has previously coached the Indian Women’s 7s team. Former player Sireli Bobo is also in consideration for the coaching roles, though Nayacalevu has refrained from disclosing the full list of applicants.

Serevi is expected to collaborate with Bobo and the Fiji Sports Council coaching staff to assist in preparing the Under-20 7s squad for upcoming competitions. His recent appointment as the International Brand Ambassador for Aqua Pacific Natural Artesian Water underscores his ongoing influence and commitment to the rugby community.

The Fijiana 15s head coach position was vacated following the departure of Mosese Rauluni last October, who had a significant impact on the team, leading them to victory in the Oceania Championship and securing their qualification for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. His successor will face the challenge of continuing this impressive journey. The coaching position for the Fijiana 7s team has been open since Saiasi Fuli’s contract ended in December 2023; Fuli had an impactful five-year tenure that included winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Nayacalevu emphasized the need to appoint the best candidates to enhance the teams’ performances and achieve positive results in international competitions. This transition period offers a valuable opportunity to reinforce leadership and strategies that can elevate Fiji’s standing in women’s rugby globally.

Overall, the forthcoming announcements are generating a sense of optimism within the Fijian rugby community. FRU’s commitment to nurturing talent and achieving success in international competitions signifies a hopeful and bright future for Fijian rugby, inspiring both current players and the next generation.
