The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is poised to announce new head coaches for the Fijiana 7s and 15s teams this week, as confirmed by FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu. The FRU has already reached out to several potential candidates and awaits their responses.

Among the prominent applicants is Waisale Serevi, recognized as a legend in sevens rugby, who has previously coached the Indian Women’s 7s team. Former rugby player Sireli Bobo is also in consideration for a coaching role, although Nayacalevu has chosen not to disclose further candidates at this stage. Serevi is set to collaborate with Bobo and other coaches from the Fiji Sports Council to prepare the Under-20 7s squad, demonstrating a commitment to nurturing young talent.

The search for new coaches comes after the vacancy for the Fijiana 15s position was created by the departure of Mosese Rauluni in October 2023. Rauluni achieved significant milestones during his tenure, including leading the team to victory in the Oceania Championship and securing a place in the upcoming Rugby World Cup. The successor to Rauluni will face the challenge of maintaining and building on this success.

The Fijiana 7s head coaching position has been unfilled since Saiasi Fuli’s contract was not renewed in December 2023. Fuli had a successful five-year term, including coaching the team to a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
