New Classrooms, New Chances: Hope Blooms in Namuka District School

Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are set to benefit from a renewed educational environment following the inauguration of three new classrooms funded by the Japanese government. The project, which cost $292,808, aims to improve education in Namuka by replacing aging and deteriorating school facilities.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school and the local community to officially hand over the classroom blocks through the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). During his visit, Mr. Rokuichiro emphasized the importance of education as a vital tool for societal improvement and encouraged students to take responsibility for the new facilities.

He highlighted that these classrooms should inspire students to fully engage in their academic pursuits. Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, noted that the new buildings will create a more conducive learning environment for students.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its commitment to educational support during the handover event. Mr. Masiwini mentioned that the new infrastructure would alleviate feelings among students of being left behind compared to those in urban areas, and the provision of new chairs and tables would enhance motivation.

He also indicated that the decline in student enrollment over the past few years could be reversed with the establishment of these new classroom blocks.
