As the new academic year approaches, students at Navuakece District School in Naitasiri will benefit from a recently inaugurated classroom block. This new building, which cost F$412,134, was officially opened by Takada Isami, the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Japanese Embassy, and Fiji’s Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro.
The project was supported by the Government of Japan, which contributed F$172,100 through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, with the remainder provided by the Fijian Government. Minister Radrodro conveyed his sincere appreciation to Japan for its unwavering support and commitment to education, particularly in remote areas like Navuakece.
He emphasized that the new classrooms are not merely facilities but essential spaces where young learners can feel safe, happy, and engaged as they embark on their educational journeys. “These classrooms are havens for conducive learning for the vanua of Navuakece,” he stated.
Mr. Isami expressed his honor in handing over the new classroom block, highlighting that the previous infrastructure had struggled to accommodate the increasing number of students over the past two years. The initiative underscores the importance of investing in education, ensuring that the new facility enhances learning for the children of Navuakece and fosters a better educational environment overall.
This development marks a significant step forward for the community, showcasing the positive impact of international partnerships on local education. The hope is that with these improvements, students will not only achieve academic success but also enjoy a fulfilling and enriching school experience.
In summary, the cooperation between Japan and Fiji in establishing this new classroom block is a commendable effort that reflects a shared commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in remote regions.
