The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Nasese, Suva, has inaugurated the South Pacific’s first Children’s Diabetes Centre as part of its third anniversary celebrations. The new facility aims to enhance the quality of life for children with diabetes by providing comprehensive medical care and supportive services to them and their families.

Dr. Krupali Tappoo, the hospital’s director, announced that the centre was established in partnership with the Radhika Trust, thanking its chairman, Nitin Punja, for the collaboration. This centre is dedicated to addressing the growing needs of diabetic children in the region, focusing on treatment, education, and awareness regarding the management of diabetes. Dr. Tappoo emphasized that the goal is to help these children lead fulfilling lives while effectively managing their health conditions.

Similar to previously reported initiatives, the hospital has been dedicated to improving pediatric healthcare across the region, particularly through its existing programs that have successfully addressed congenital heart diseases. Since its inception, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital has performed hundreds of heart surgeries at no cost to families, showcasing its commitment to affordable healthcare.

The establishment of the Children’s Diabetes Centre expands on this mission, aiming to ensure no child is neglected due to financial constraints related to chronic health issues. This positive step forward highlights a growing recognition of the need for comprehensive healthcare facilities tailored to the unique challenges faced by children in the Pacific.

As the region continues to enhance its pediatric healthcare services, the collaboration between local and international healthcare professionals remains pivotal. This interconnected approach illustrates the importance of community and collective effort in addressing health disparities, ultimately instilling hope and fostering a healthier future for children in Fiji and beyond.
