Kiti Temo, the current Official Secretary for the Office of the President, is poised to become the new Chief of Protocol within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This transition comes after the Office of the President recently advertised her position in local newspapers.
Ms. Temo has been serving as the Official Secretary since the presidency of Jioji Konrote, a role that plays a crucial part in ensuring that all advice given to the President is in accordance with Fiji’s Constitution. The new Chief of Protocol will be responsible for maintaining close communication with the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers, ensuring that all advice provided is constitutionally sound and accurate, in collaboration with their respective Permanent Secretaries.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Head of Department will manage the daily operations of the Office of the President, ensuring that all functions are carried out smoothly and legally. The job advertisement emphasized the need for applicants to exhibit a strong commitment to public service values as defined in the Fijian Constitution, alongside good character and integrity. Only Fijian citizens under the age of 60 are eligible to apply.
This potential appointment marks a significant moment for both Ms. Temo and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as it reflects a progression in her career while highlighting the importance of constitutional adherence in government roles.
The selection process not only aims to find a qualified leader for this critical position, but it also underscores the commitment to upholding the integrity of public service in Fiji.
