New winners are anticipated to emerge in the under-15 and under-17 categories of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Vodafone Trophy competition this weekend as the current holders, Ba Methodist Saints and Queen Victoria School, have not advanced to the semi-finals.
In contrast, Naitasiri Secondary School Warriors remain in contention to defend their U19 title. The semi-finals will be held at Garvey Park in Tavua, featuring exciting matchups beginning with the U15 division at 9:15 AM, where Marist Brothers High School Storm faces Lautoka Central College Storm, followed by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School Dragons competing against Sigatoka Methodist High School Storm at 10:15 AM.
The U17 matches kick off at 11:15 AM, with Marist Storm taking on Sigatoka Valley Cowboys and Nasinu Secondary School Panthers playing against Ba Pro Dragons at 12:25 PM. Additionally, in the U19 category, Naitasiri Warriors will clash with the Ra Roosters in the first semi at 1:35 PM, while the second semi features Ratu Kadavulevu School Eels versus Ba Pro Dragons at 2:55 PM.
Notably absent from this year’s semi-finals are established teams like QVS and Suva Grammar School, which adds an intriguing twist to the competition as new talent has the spotlight.
These matches not only promise thrilling displays of rugby but also serve as a vital platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and foster community spirit among supporters. With vibrant local engagement anticipated, hope springs that the performances from this weekend will inspire future generations of rugby players in Fiji.
